I did it. I bought a house. A house in the Black Forest. The former farm house / guesthouse in the region of Freudenstadt. Some of you might remember my ideas, plans and also the house in the Black Forest I have been talking about.

The story began last September, where I came across the advert for the house while doing some rather erratic research on the internet. I saved it as a favourite in my link list. A few days later, I spoke with the estate agent and got interesting, additional information. A few days later again, I arranged a viewing appointment. Already another week later, I had a second viewing, this time accompanied by my dad. Afterwards, the big question: shall I buy the house or not? My financial planning didn't help me. I felt confused. First of all, I liked the house very much, and I could see myself in there, starting to realize my ideas and living the kind of life I aspire. My feelings constantly changed between enthusiasm and an "I can do that"-attitute on the one hand, and insecurity and overwhelmedness by the thought to own such a big property on the other hand: I had become aware of how much energy, time and money needs to be put into this house before I could even think of reopening a small guesthouse business. I could not decide to buy the house at this point in time. So I kept working at my former company until the end of January 2015. And in my confusion, I decided to walk the „Camino de Santiago“ through France and Spain for the two following months. But I always kept thinking of the house, I regularily checked if the advert was still online. Also before I left for my pilgrimage. But I wanted to feel free before I left, so I told myself, if the house was still for sale afterwards, I would think about it again, if not, then would be alright as well. After one week on the camino, I checked already if the advert was still online. It was, but with a big „RESERVED !!!“ in the headline. This helped me to give this idea up and to walk the camino with free spirits. Two months later, back home, I checked the advert again. To my surprise, it was still online, without the reservation note, but for a higher price (out of my budget). Without any expectations, I called the estate agent once more. She explained me that the house had indeed almost been sold inbetween (an appointment with the notary had been agreed, but in the last minute, somebody got cold feet). And with respect to the higher price, she told me that I could buy the house for the price we had previously agreed on. I felt incredible joy. The insecurity was gone, I just wanted to buy the house. It had been waiting for me. Now, I am already more or less the official owner (the notary appointment took place this week and the rest of the administrative stuff should all work out). I feel happy and relaxed to now be able to put all my energies into a concrete project instead of thinking, explaining, searching and justifying myself without any reference point. I took a big step.

In order to inform my circle of friends and whoever is interested on the progress with the renovation works, the journey to hopefully reopening the guesthouse and my way of living, I write this blog. I hope you enjoy reading it!
