Dominique's Besuch - Dominique's visit
Im August waren genau wie letztes Jahr richtig viele Leute bei mir. Wie man sehen kann, mache ich mache schon Statistiken über die Besucherzahlen hier ;-) Der Grund für den Peak im August mag wohl auch an der Urlaubszeit liegen. Jedenfalls hat die Mund-zu-Mund-Werbung bei meinem letzten Besuch bestens funktioniert. Juliane, eine Freundin von mir aus Grundschulzeiten, die mein Projekt rege aus der Ferne beobachtet (und mir viele Links schickt, die für mich wirklich interessant sind), hat mir nun auch einen ersten Helfer und Besucher geschickt, da sie einem Freund, Dominique, von meiner Lodge erzählte. Dominique kombinierte das Helfen wunderbar mit Sport im Schwarzwald.
Zunächst einmal zur Arbeit... er durfte mir bei der Befestigung der Rollos an den Türen mit Glaseinsatz helfen. Eine wirklich wichtige Sache, da ich als Gast die erste wäre, die sich beschwert, wenn nachts das Licht im Gang angeht und mein Zimmer erleuchtet würde.
This August, I had a lot of people here, just as last year. As you can see, I am already making statistics on the number of visitors ;-) The reason for this peak might be holiday season. Well, for the last visitor, the mouth-to-mouth referral worked perfectly. Juliane, a friend of mine from elementary school, participates actively in my project (and sends me a lot of really interesting and relevant links). And she told a friend of her about my project, who came to visit. He perfectly combined helping me with doing sports in the Black Forest.
Let me first talk about the business. Dominique was asked to help me fix the blind rollers for the rooms with doors with glass insets. Something really important, as I'd be the first person to complain if somebody switched on the light at night in the hallway and my room was illuminated.
Dominique stellte sich sehr geschickt an, auch wenn bzw. gerade durch die Tatsache, dass er nicht täglich mit dem Akkuschrauber umgeht. Als ich jedenfalls Mühe hatte, die erste Schraube anzubringen (aber vor allem, da der Ansatzpunkt zu hoch für mich war ohne Leiter, und nicht, weil ich nicht schrauben kann ... das muss ich nach einem Jahr des Renovierens sagen), nahm er den Akkuschrauber. Ich bekam ihn für die restlichen Rollos nicht wieder ... und wir kamen flott voran.
Dominique was very skillful, despite or exactly through the fact that he's not using the electric screwdriver every day. When I struggled to get the first screw in (because it was too high and I had no ladder, not because I can't handle this tool ... I need to say this after a year of renovating), he took the screwdriver over. I didn't get it back for the remaining blinds ... and we moved on fastly.
So sieht das Ergebnis aus. Die Lösung ist sehr funktional, und sieht nicht mal störend aus. Und ich hoffe, dass sie sich auch als praxistauglich erweisen wird.
And that's what the result looks like. This solution is very functional and does not look disturbing. I hope it will be practicable on a daily basis as well.
Danach wurde es etwas unangenehmer. Ich wollte die Holzdecke in einem der Räume entfernen. Die erste und einzige im Haus (zum Glück). In meiner Naivität dachte ich, man müsse nur mit dem Nageleisen wie bei der Schalung die Bretter wegziehen, halt von oben anstatt von der Seite. Falsch gedacht, dass sich über den Brettern Glaswolle befinden könnte, daran hatte ich nicht gedacht. Jedenfalls kam mit der Glaswolle auch noch viel Staub und Dreck aus der Decke ... und wenn ich das geahnt hätte, dann hätte ich diesen Job auch keinem externen Helfer zugemutet.
It got slightly more awkward afterwards, I wanted to remove the wooden ceiling in one room. The first and only one in the house (luckily), I thought in my naivety that I'd simply have to remove the boards with my pry bar, just as I did it at the facade - only from the top and not from the side. This thouht proved to be wrong, kind of, because I'd never thought to find glass wool on top of the boards. And with the glass wool, a lot of dust and dirt came down as well. If I'd thought of this, I wouldn't have asked an external helper to do this job with me...

And am happy about having completed another step.
Am Wochenende kamen auch meine Eltern. Der Papa hat ein lang geplantes Projekt realisiert und kam mit dem Rennrad. Er kam zu meiner Erleichterung erst mal an und konnte auch noch lachen. Ich war wirklich froh, denn die ganze "Schafferei" in Igelsberg hat ihn sehr vom Radeln in dieser Saison abgehalten, aber ganz außer Form ist er so nicht, wie er bewiesen hat. Die Mama kam mit dem Auto (sie musste das Gepäck mitnehmen) und blieb diese Woche noch, um sich einem neuen Großprojekt zu widmen (die Treppe ... dazu später mehr).
On the weekend, my parents came as well. My dad realised a long planned project and came by bike. He got there and he could still smile. To my relief, because I am fully aware that all the work in Igelsberg prevents him from cycling. But this proved that he's not completely out of shape.
My mom came as well (she had to carry the stuff and take the car). She spent the following week with me to deal with the next big project: the stairs. More about that soon.
Es waren traumhafte Sommertage, sodass Dominique auch toll ein Triathlontraining hier absolvieren konnte. Er machte zum Beispiel die selbe Mountainbike-Tour wie Nicole und Georg und ich, nur dass er etwas weniger Mühe hatte als wir Mädels.
Das Schwimmen in der Nagoldtalsperre war für alle (verstaubte Arbeiter wie Sportler) sehr angenehm.
We had perfect summer days, so that Dominique could perfom triathlon training. He did the same mountainbike tour that Nicole and Georg and I did, it just cost him a little less effort than Nicole and me.
Swimming in the Nagoldtalsperre has been a real pleasure for all of us (dirty workers as well as sportspeople).

Mit der Idee, dass ich Landjäger an meine Gäste verkaufen solle, hast du dich wohl auch verewigt ;-) Und wenn du mal einen Ausgleich zur Arbeit am Schreibtisch brauchst, kannst du dich immer gerne hier beim Arbeiten oder Sport verausgaben.
