Nicole war da - Nicole was here
Als ich mir gerade mein Haus gekauft hatte, haben mir viele Freunde erzählt, dass sie mich irgendwann besuchen kommen und/oder helfen würden. Ein paar Monate später bin ich schon total entzückt, wie viele Leute bereits hier waren! Bevor die erste Helferin kam, war ich allerdings etwas unsicher, ob ich denn im Schwarzwald wirklich Besuch bekommen würde. Nur bei meinen Eltern, meinem Bruder ... und Nicole war ich mir ganz sicher. Nicole kenne ich praktisch schon seit meiner Geburt, und unsere Freundschaft ist somit bald 30 Jahre alt. Nett, oder? Letzte Woche kam sie dann spontan für einen kurzen Besuch hier an. Wir haben in der Garage Betten weiß lasiert und ein anderes Bett im Haus aufgebaut. Auch da hat sich gezeigt, dass wir ein eingespieltes Team sind.

We did glaze beds in white in the garage and have build up another bed in the house. It became obvious that we are a well-coordinated team.

Auch "Holzarbeit" wie das Schild im Hintergrund sagt - aber hier läuft eben alles etwas anders als normal.
Da ich einen Termin in Freudenstadt hatte, wurde auch der schon ewig geplante Stadtrundgang laut dem offiziellen Wegweiser einmal in die Tat umgesetzt. Freudenstadt ist einfach ein nettes Städtchen (dazu wann anders mehr). Der ideale Zeitpunkt für schöne Bilder war's nicht. Der größte Marktplatz in Deutschland sieht bei Sonnenschein und wenn im Sommer Kinder zwischen den Wasserfontainen spielen etwas schöner aus. Spaß gemacht hat der Rundgang aber trotzdem. Ein gemeinsamer Weihnachtsmarktbesuch hat Nicole's Abstecher hier abgerundet.
As I had an appointment in Freudenstadt, we put into practice a long-planned project of mine: a tour through Freudenstadt out of the official guide. It is a nice town (I will say more about it another time). It hasn't been the best time for nice pictures. The largest market place in Germany looks more beautiful in the sunshine and when children are playing between the waterfountains in summer. But the tour was fun anyway. And a visit on the Christmas market completes Nicole's visit.
Seit ich in den letzten Jahren etwas mehr herumgekommen und viele neue Leute kennen gelernt habe, war ich öfter überrascht, wie schnell eine enge Freundschaft entstehen kann - mit manchen Leuten ist man einfach auf einer Wellenlänge und es passt. Aber auf der anderen Seite ist mir auch bewusst geworden, dass Zeit für Freunde ein immer rareres Gut wird (Studium, Beruf, Haushalt, eigene Familie bei vielen..), weshalb die Beziehung zu meinen Schulfreundinnen durch die vielen gemeinsam verbrachten Jugendjahre eine besondere ist. Und ganz speziell: Niemand kann die Freundin ersetzen, die ich schon "seit immer" gehabt habe. Danke, Nicole!
Since I have been moving around a little in the last years and got to know many people, I have often been surprised about how fast a close friendship can develop - you just have that connection with some people and it fits. But on the other hand, I have realized that time with friends becomes a more and more rare good (studies, work, household, the own family for many people..). That's why the relation to my school friends is a special one through the years we have spent together in our youth. And very particular: Nobody replaces the friend you have had "forever".
