Das neue Badezimmer - the new bathroom
Nun ist ein Meilenstein geschafft. Es war ein Großprojekt in der Hand meines Papas und eine interessante Herausforderung für ihn mit tollem Ergebnis: das Einbauen eines Badezimmers für mich. Ein Großteil seines Sommerurlaubs sowie viele Wochenenden verbrachte er eher in einem dunklen Loch als einem Raum sowie im Keller bei den Rohren. Das Resultat lässt aber viel Raum zur Freude, vor allem natürlich mir (ich hatte noch nie ein so schönes und nagelneues Badezimmer).
One milestone has been accomplished now. It has been a big project managed and performed by my dad - an interesting challenge with a great result. I am talking about my new bathroom. He spend most of his summer vacation and many weekens rather in a dark hole than in a room and in the cellar for the pipes. But the result makes us all happy (most of all, I am happy, as I have never had such a nice and brandnew bathroom).

Zunächst mussten die alten Gegenstände herausgetragen werden. Dann ging's ans Fliesen abschlagen. Das war eine gute Aufgabe für meinen Bruder, da er kurz davor war, seinen ersten Job bei Hilti anzutreten.
First of all the old stuff had to be carried out of the room. Then, my brother started to remove the tiles - it was a good job for him and he was pretty motivated as he was about to start to work for Hilti.
Ein morscher Balken und ein großes Loch in der Wand waren das Zwischenergebnis.
A rotten beam and a big hole in the wall were the interim result.
Nun verbrachte mein Papa viel Zeit mit dem Erneuern und Verlegen der Rohre (auch im Keller), bevor wieder zugemauert werden konnte. Eine Kunst für sich.
Then, my dad spent a lot of time renewing and laying pipes (also in the cellar), before the wall could be closed with masonry again. An art in itself.
Nächster Schritt nach dem Mauern: Verputzen. Nach diesem Arbeitsschritt waren die Wände im Bad gerade (wohl in so dem ziemlich einzigen Raum im ganzen Haus) und die Rohre verlaufen nun Unterputz in der Wand (was ich ja fast schade finde, denn den Prozess des Rohreverlegens bekam ich in vollem Ausmaß hautnah mit und das gerade verlegte Rohresystem find eich beeindruckend, ja fast schön ;-)).
Next step after laying bricks: plastering work. After this, the walls in the bathroom were even (probably the only room in the house with even walls) and the pipes are in-wall (I think this is almost a pity, as I observed the whole process of laying pipes and consider the new and precise pipe system as impressive, almost beautiful ;-)).

Nun folgte das Fliesen. DAS Tool, das enorme Begeisterung hervorruf: der Kreuzlinienlaser.
The tiling followed. THE tool for it: the crossline laser.
So meisterte mein Papa auch diesen Arbeitsschritt, den er zum ersten Mal selbst ausführte (mein Opa war Fliesenleger).
That way, my dad managed to do this step properly as well, for the first time on his own (my grandpa has been a professional tiler and always took care of this in the past):
Die Decke wurde auch geebnet und gestrichen, Leitungen verlegt, Armaturen angeschlossen (und ich hab bestimmt auch ein paar Arbeitsschritte zu nennen vergessen). Dann wurde der Boden verlegt und auch noch ausgefugt. Zum Schluss wurden die Ecken ausgefugt. Im Anschluss an alles konnten wir mein Badezimmer am letzten Sonntag Morgen aber ordnungsgemäß mit einem Piccolo einweihen.
The ceiling has also been evened out and painted, cables were laid, and fittings were installed (and I probably forgot to mention a few steps). Afterwards, the floor has been tiled and gouged. In a last step, the corners were gouched. After all this work, we could inaugurate the bathroom last Sunday morning with a glass of champagne.
