Wieder einen Schritt weiter: der Gang im unteren Stock ist nun auch renoviert, nachdem die umliegenden Räume fertig sind. Beim Zusammensuchen der Fotos ist mir voll und ganz bewusst geworden, dass das ein richtiges Großprojekt war, dass sich lange gezogen hat.

Another step further: the hallway downstairs can be titled as renovated as well, since the adjacent rooms have been finished. While collecting the photos, I totally became aware that this has been a big and lengthy project.

Bei einem kürzlichen Wochenendbesuch brachten meine Eltern eine sehr nette Nachbarin von sich mit. Fini ist auch die Schenkerin des schönen Bauernschranks im roten Zimmer und verfolgt mein Projekt mir großem Interesse. Und sie stellt meinen Eltern so viele Fragen (der Blog beantwortet nicht alle davon), dass die Folgerung war, die Fini so schnell wie möglich mal mitzubringen, dass sie sich alles selbst ansehen kann. Ich hab mich sehr gefreut, sie hier zu haben. Nach einer Tour durch das Haus wollte sie auch arbeiten und half beim Tapetenablösen.

Not long ago, my parents brought a very nice neighbor with them when they came for the weekend. Fini is the donator of the beautiful wardrobe in the red room and follows my project with great interest. As she asks my parents a lot of questions (the blog does not answer them all), the conclusion was that she should come here to see everything herself as soon as possible. And I was really happy to have her here. After a tour through the house, Fini also wanted to work. She helped a lot removing wallpapers.

Zugegeben, eine meiner grandiosen Ideen im letzten Jahr war, die alte Speisekammer einfach zuzumauern. Ich konnte mir einfach nicht vorstellen, in dem Raum in seinem ursprünglichen Zustand Lebensmittel zu lagern (und es roch ein wenig nach Rauchfleisch, was wohl zu meiner Verteidigung auch dazu beigetragen hat). Jedenfalls waren sich alle Anwesenden einig, dass man nicht einfach Fläche in einem Haus zumauert und somit verschenkt, auch nicht in einem großen Haus. Jetzt wo die Speise renoviert ist, bin ich auch heilfroh über den Lagerplatz. Die Küche platzt nämlich aus allen Nähten und ich kann es nicht erwarten, ein wenig umzuorganiseren und alles praktischer zu machen.
Nachdem das alte Regal der Speisekammer beseitigt wurde, die Wände begradigt, neu gestrichen und ein neuer Boden verlegt wurde, hieß es letzten Samstag noch: Bastelstunde. Und zwar haben wir nach Papa's Entwurf ein passgenaues Regal gebaut. Dazu musste laut Papa erst mal die richtige Säge her (die bereits vorhandene, kleinere ist nämlich "zum Verzweifeln") - der Gewerbekundenrabatt im Baumarkt sowie die Mehrwertsteuererstattung wollen zudem ausgenutzt werden. Nach dem Kauf war er glücklich. Männer eben ... Maschinen (je größer, desto besser) sind für sie das, was Klamotten für Frauen sind. Da gibt es einfach geschlechterspezifische Unterschiede, darüber habe ich mich im letzten Jahr so oft amüsiert.

Well, one of my terrific ideas in the last year was to wall up the old pantry. I jut couldn't imagine to keep provisions in there (it smelled a little like smoked meat, what contributed to this idea as well. I need to say this to my defense). All present people immediately agreed that you just don't brick up space in a house and waste it, even if the house is big. Now that the pantry is renovated, I am jolly glad about the storage space. There is no more space in my kitchen to store food stuff and I wan't wait to reorganise things to make everything more practical and efficient.  
Having removed the old shelf in the pantry, evened the walls, painted and laid a new floor, last Saturday was the time for a little handicraft lesson. We constructed a new shelf according to my dad's plan. First, a new saw had to be bought (the existing, smaller one is "exasperating" ) - and the business client discount in the DIY-store as well as the VAT refund need to be taken advantage of as well. He has been happy after the purchase ... men (all kind of machines (the bigger, the better) are what clothes are to women. There is a gender-specific difference, I saw so many situations in the last year that made me smile.
